An aerial photograph of Puerto Mosquito Bay in Vieques
Puerto Rico. This bay is thought to be the brightest
Bioluminescent Bay in the world.
The bay has a unique structure that supports the
bioluminescent micro-organism called dinoflagellates.
The narrow mouth allows for a perfect balance of
ocean water to bay water. Surrounding the bay are
4 different species of mangroves which provide
nourishment for the eco-system.
To the right of the bay are salt flats which drain into
the bay providing more critical element.
Above the salt flats is Sun Bay which is a
famous beach on Vieques.
